Style as Self Care: Dressing for Your Heart This February

February is the month we focus on matters of the heart: American Heart Month, Valentine’s Day, and honoring the legacy of Black History Month. But if you’re a woman in transition, you’ve been going through it lately, and your closet might be holding more weight than it should.

When life feels heavy, getting dressed can start to feel like a chore. Other things take priority, and somewhere along the way, you stop showing up for yourself in that small, daily ritual. But here’s what I want you to know: you’ve got it all wrong. Style isn’t pointless. It’s the self-care practice you’ve been missing.

Why Getting Dressed Matters

Self-care takes many forms. A warm bath. A day at the spa. Your favorite dessert at the end of a long night. But the act of putting on what makes you feel good and intentionally adorning yourself? That’s self-care too, especially when you’re navigating change and life feels uncertain.

Throughout history, some of the most powerful moments in fashion and beauty were born out of struggle. Style has always been a way to reclaim power, express identity, and create stability when everything else feels shaky. When you dress with intention, you’re reminding yourself of who you are. You’re proving that you can evolve with care and grace, even in the middle of hard things.

The Style Meets Heart Check

This month, I’m encouraging you to dress from the heart. Not for perfection. Not to impress anyone. Just to honor where you are and who you’re becoming.

Here’s a simple exercise to help you get started:

Step 1: Find Your Comfort Anchor

Look at what you’ve been reaching for lately. What actually makes you feel good when you put it on? It might be your favorite jeans, a cozy sweater, or that one blazer that just works. That’s your anchor piece for February.

Step 2: Build One Simple Outfit Around It

Take that anchor piece and pair it with something that feels easy. Don’t overthink it. Just create one comfortable, wearable outfit you can repeat when you need to feel grounded.

Step 3: Notice What’s Missing (If Anything)

As you wear this outfit throughout the month, pay attention. Do you wish you had different shoes? A third layer? A specific color? Don’t rush to fill the gaps. Just notice them. Sometimes awareness is enough.

Level It Up:

If you’re ready, ask yourself: “What would make getting dressed feel even easier right now?” Maybe it’s one new basic or a dress that fits your current life. Maybe it’s finally hemming those pants. Maybe it’s nothing at all.

When You Need More Support

Sometimes you need more than a blog post. Sometimes you need someone in your corner who understands what you’re navigating and can help you figure out what actually works for your life right now.

That’s why I’m launching my Style & Shop series this month: focused, one on one sessions designed for women who want clarity, not overwhelm. We’ll work together to build outfits that feel aligned with who you are now, shop intentionally for what’s actually missing, and create a foundation you can build on.

If you’ve been feeling stuck or disconnected from your style, this is for you. [Book your session here]

The Bottom Line

Regardless of how you approach it, the goal is always the same: to take care of you, inside and out. Your heart deserves that attention. You deserve to show up for yourself, even in small ways.

Start with one outfit. Start with kindness. Start where you are.
